What Should I Watch During Spooky Season?

With so many spine-chilling horror films out, it’s almost impossible to pick which ones to watch during spooky season! That’s why we, your fellow horror fanatics, have curated a list of some of our favorite scary movies to watch during this upcoming spooky season. You better make some popcorn and grab your Halloween candy!

“Insidious” blends jump-scares, tension, suspense, and an eerie atmosphere perfectly together to create a frightening masterpiece. 

Based around a family that moves to a new home that they soon believe is haunted. While exploring the attic, their son Dalton falls off a latter and hits his head, sending him into a state of comatose. Doctors state he has no head trauma and are unable to figure out what’s wrong with Dalton. While in a coma, he gets trapped in an astral realm and becomes a vessel for tortured spirits looking to escape a purgatory named “The Further.”

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

“A Nightmare on Elm Street” is a classic slasher film that has stood the test of time. 

The movie follows the story of several teenagers who are being traumatized in their nightmares by a clawed killer named Fred Krueger. Fred was a serial killer who murdered children using a glove with razor blades attached to his fingers. After a judge makes the disastrous decision to release Krueger, a mob of angry parents burns Krueger alive for murdering their children. 

A group of teenagers then start seeing Krueger in their dreams, seeking revenge on the parents who killed him. After one of their friends is murdered in their sleep, the group realizes that if Krueger kills you in your sleep, you die in real life too.

The Conjuring (2013)

“The Conjuring” is based on the alleged real-life exploits of a married couple, Ed and Lorraine Wilson, who investigated paranormal occurrences. 

When the Perron family moves into a rural Rhode Island farmhouse, strange things start happening. When the events become increasingly disturbing, the family calls in paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren. 

The Warrens discover that the house is possessed by a demonic spirit that is haunting the Perron family. To stop the evil spirit from killing the family, Ed and Lorraine must use their spiritual skills to put the entity to rest.

It (2017)

A remake of the 90’s classic horror movie and based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel, “It” is a must-see for spooky season!

The plot follows a group of misfit kids in 1989 who seek to destroy the shape-shifting clown, Pennywise. The clown is responsible for murdering kids in their small hometown of Derry, Maine. Pennywise lured an innocent six-year-old, Georgie, to the sewer where he was hiding and dragged him back down with him. Now, Georgie’s brother Bill is determined to take revenge on the monster who killed his brother and teams up with a group of kids to take Pennywise down. 

The being appears in the town every 27 years to feed. The group is forced to face their fears if they want a chance at putting the monster to rest. This film has the perfect balance of scariness, comedy, and heartfelt moments.

Halloween (1978)

We can’t make a Halloween movie list without the cult-classic film “Halloween.” This is the first and best movie in the Halloween franchise. 

The movie is based around Michael Myers, who killed his older sister on Halloween night at only six years old. Myers is sent to a mental institution that he escapes from 15 years later, on the night before Halloween. 

Myers returns to his hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois, where he plans to kill again on Halloween night. Determined to kill a group of high school girls, Myers wreaks havoc through the small town he once called home.
