Our Trip to Transworld

Our Trip to Transworld

This past March myself and a couple other members of the Terror 29 crew made the trip to St. Louis to attend TransWorld Halloween & Attraction Show. It’s one of the largest haunted house conventions in the country! I was worried the convention wouldn’t live up to the hype. But I was wrong! It was awesome! We learned a lot and also saw some super spooky stuff on the showroom floor. The showroom floor alone is around 180,000 square feet. Don’t quote me, but it’s something like that. Either way it’s HUGE!

The trip started off with an hour detour through Des Moines, since Omaha was still flooded at the time. Yep, we took the trip by car! The nine hour drive to St. Louis allowed for Trevor and myself to get work done on Terror 29. Thanks to Heather for driving!

I was packed with seminars starting the first day with a four hour safety seminar. Over the course of the weekend I became CHAOS certified! It’s the industry standard safety certification through the Haunters Attraction Association.

Heather was able to sit in on seminars teaching make up, costumes and set design. Trevor attended quite a few marketing seminars. Overall we became well rounded in knowledge with tips and tricks to implement into our own haunt! The biggest take away was chatting with other haunters and learning what works and what doesn’t. What we learned the most is that we are already on the right track to bring a spooky experience to Sioux Falls!

We also had the opportunity to go through the Darkness haunt attraction in St. Louis. It’s considered one of the top haunted houses in the country! They spent over $200,000 just to revamp the haunt for the 2019 season. New scenes, new sets and new animatronics! It was absolutely fantastic. Much wow! I only grabbed a few pictures as I didn’t want to be on my phone the entire time as we experienced the haunt.
