What We Know About Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! He's Back in a Spooktacular New Trailer!

It's official, folks – our favorite bio-exorcist with a penchant for stripes is back! After a hauntingly long wait (36 years, to be exact!), Warner Bros. has unleashed the first trailer for Beetlejuice 2, and it looks like things are about to get more chaotic than a sandworm funeral.

A Blast from the Past with a Modern Twist

The trailer opens with a familiar sight – the Deetzes, a new generation this time around. We see a teenage girl, likely Lydia's descendant, wandering through the attic of the infamous Maitland house, eventually stumbling upon the miniature model of Winter River. Just as we suspected, uttering the forbidden name three times does the trick (because, let's be honest, who could resist?), and the one and only Beetlejuice bursts back onto the scene with his signature brand of manic glee (and impressively green hair). The Juice is on the loose!

What We Know So Far

While the plot remains shrouded in mystery, the trailer hints at a darker tone compared to the original film. Glimpses of monstrous creatures, spooky rituals, and Lydia's descendant seemingly possessed by a malevolent force suggest we're in for a wilder ride this time around.

The sequel picks up decades later with a death in the family. "That's all I will say," Burton tells Entertainment Weekly in an interview. "There's something that happens that sets things in motion." Could that be the death of Lydia's father, Charles Deetz (Jeffrey Jones)? The director plays coy: "We'll see."

Original Cast Returns

Thankfully, the trailer confirms the return of some beloved original cast members. Michael Keaton is back to reprise his role as the delightfully deranged Beetlejuice, while Winona Ryder is set to return as Lydia Deetz, though in what capacity remains to be seen. New additions to the cast include, Jenna Ortega (Wednesday Addams from the Netflix series), and Willem Dafoe – an exciting line-up that promises both nostalgia and fresh energy.

A Release Date to Die For (or Celebrate!)

Beetlejuice 2, officially titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, is slated to hit theaters on September 6th, 2024. So, mark your calendars, dust off your sandworms, and prepare to unleash the chaos once more! In the meantime, be sure to check out the new trailer and let us know your thoughts in the comments below! What are you most excited about for Beetlejuice 2? And more importantly, will anyone say his name a third time?
